For Eos & Co., these values form the heart of our products. My introduction to Peace Silk began precisely at this point; working with a fabric produced through a nature- and silkworm-friendly method, rather than traditional silk production, became an inspiring and responsible step for me.
Defne & Apollon Silkworks, a family-run business in Hatay, Turkey, has been preserving the silk tradition for many years. Founder Emel Duman oversees all stages of production, from planting mulberry saplings and caring for silkworms to transforming cocoons into threads and weaving. Approximately 15,000 mulberry trees surrounding the workshop ensure that the production remains natural and sustainable. (Defne Apollon Silkworks, 2023)
In the preparation of Peace Silk, silkworms are allowed to emerge as butterflies from their cocoons, ensuring no harm is done to the pupa. As a result, the obtained thread offers both an ethical and environmentally conscious production process. (Defne Apollon, Peace Silk Research, 2023)
Peace Silk is naturally slightly shorter in fiber and requires delicate craftsmanship; its flexibility, soft texture, and warm feel provide a unique experience in our products. The silk produced at Defne & Apollon is used in various products, from pouches and shawls to kimono and bed linen sets.
